We’ve been away from the blog for a while but are excited to come back with a new series! Our team has been busy working hard with customers across the country to improve their operations. And we are ready to share our experiences.
In this series, we are going to dig into the behind the scenes work at our customer’s sites. Some of this is work that may not always make the headlines. But it is truly important work – work that when accumulated is driving transformational improvements in healthcare (and really does deserve some attention!).
Customers turn to RTLS to solve big challenges – such as finding equipment, minimizing patient wait times, or managing resourcing barriers. And RTLS can tackle those challenges head on. But one by one, each lightbulb turns on and they see ALL of the added benefits that come with real-time locating.
Check out InSites CEO Shane Waslaski earlier blog,
“To Solve BIG Challenges, Sometimes We Need to Think Small.“
In the first of this series, we are going to jump into real-time location systems and its impact on safety.
InSites’ customers are gaining real benefit from RTLS and its impacts on safety. For example, when a patient comes in with a communicable disease, a quick glance at InSites’ infection exposure report provides a detailed list of all people, places and things that were exposed to this patient for quick containment.
But the impact of InSites’ RTLS solution on safety goes further:
RTLS is helping this customer locate the right medical equipment and inventories in real time across over 1.1 million square feet of space, which is critical to patient safety and care.
Staff are locating recalled equipment in seconds with RTLS, preventing this equipment from being used in patient care.
Visibility into hoarding metrics and equipment cleaning processes is ensuring equipment that was in use is being properly wiped down and sterilized.
Alerting of expired products is eliminating the risk of using an expired product on a patient — serving as another built-in patient safety check.
Staff are receiving notification when large equipment such as stretchers are idle in the hallway for more than 20 minutes, preventing clutter in the hallway (which is also a Joint Commission requirement).
The safety benefits of RTLS extend far beyond the obvious. And at the heart of it, RTLS is empowering healthcare teams to eliminate the waste, remove the clutter and background noise – and focus on providing better, and safer, patient care.
What safety benefits are you realizing with RTLS? Or how could RTLS provide added safety benefits at your facility? We would love to hear from you.
